Education and specializations

 

As a registered psychologist, I strive for an evidence based approach of multiple problems that clients bring. Therefor I invest in continued education and further training and/or masterclasses. After my graduation as a clinical psychologist at the university of Ghent, I specialised in narrative therapy. The emphasis being that the problem is the problem and not the person. It allows us to develop another perspective of the problem and to explore a less toxic narrative. An acknowledgement of the many efforts people put in trying to cope with difficulties and problems long before they start psychological counseling. 

 

Furthermore I persued various courses related to health psychology during the 10 years I worked as a clinical psychologist for a general hospital (AZ Zeno). I was amongst other invested in oncological and palliative care as well as in pain management. Last but not least, I'm specialized in the treatment of burnout and other stress-related illnesses, including medically unexplained physical symptoms.

 

From my professional activities in the obesity clinic, I collaborate in 2017-2018 closely with the LMN Brugge – Oostende – Houtland as part of formulating a protocol in context of handeling obesity in Flanders. At present, I’m involved in a partnership with dr. Dillemans concerning preoperative psychological screening for and follow-up of bariatric surgery.

 

Counseling

 

I offer counseling and support for young adults, adults and seniors. Requests for psychological and emotional help of children and adolescents will be referred to a child/adolescent psychologist.
